Vega Discoveries –Owner/Programmer/Analyst                                                                                July 2008 – Present

  • July of 2008 I began operating my own consulting company full-time. Vega Discoveries offers custom programming services and web hosting with email services.
  • In 2008 I obtained the client 'True Blue Clothing'. Vega Discoveries is now responsible for performing database, middle-layer, and end user programming for end to end solutions within True Blue Clothing.
  • In 2009 Vega Discoveries entered into an agreement to provide data processing services to 'Integrated Card Services'. Vega Discoveries provided secure data services and maintained a custom built web application to provide Integrated staff with access to the data processing results. The data processing services include producing monthly statements for Agent and Merchant Payments from Integrated.
  • In 2010 Vega Discoveries began offering services to a new startup company, 'Ogs Noodle'.
  • As a principle partner in 'Ogs Noodle' I have overseen the technical challenges of meeting the companies needs. Specifically, creating a new server platform to provide video conferencing services. I have researched technologies, selected development tools, and overseen the development of custom solutions for Ogs Noodle.
  • I created a web based service that can be used by programmers to filter language content. The service allows a programmer to select a rating level that they wish their content to be filtered to. (G, PG, PG13, R) The service is found at http://www.filterlanguage.com Ogs Noodle is utilizing this service to ensure that content typed by users meets published site standards.
  • August of 2013 Vega Discoveries began developing a phone app for distance sports - Race Beacon. In May of 2014 the app went live in the Apple App Store.

    Telect –Programmer/Analyst                                                                                March 2008 – July 2008

    • This was a full-time permanent position that was cut as part of a larger Reduction In Force (RIF) action within the company.
    • Maintained and enhanced the company web site www.telect.com.
    • Maintained and enhanced internal solutions. A custom data reporting web application, an internal SharePoint portal, customized the internal MS CRM application, and a Cold Fusion based intranet site.
    • Created internal .NET web services for accessing MS SQL and Oracle databases.
    • Created a custom application for scanning bar coded serial numbers as part of the manufacturing process.
    • Built OLAP Cubes and Data Mining models.

    Group Health – Manager/Programmer/Analyst                                                  July 2002 – March 2008

    • Built .NET applications that would mirror production databases in SQL Server. One mirror was of an Informix based system another was to mirror six SQL databases into one.
    • Created an internal .NET web site for retrieving data from doctors to enable the acquisition of National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers. This solution required a focus on security.
    • Created custom development controls for both thick and thin client development to be used on a variety of projects within the team.
    • Designed and built an application for distributing work items to end users via an application rather than paper reports. The application allows for tracking work performance by staff.
    • Designed and built a system that enables large amounts of data to be processed by multiple rack-mounted client systems. The automated processing mimics the keystrokes of data entry staff in the LastWord and IBM hospital systems. Created an end-user application to allow managers to send data to the automated system from their desktop.
    • Created documentation templates for development staff to improve the development of software by the team. Created documentation templates for requestors of our services and assisted in the workflow process of managing those requests.

    • Created an MS Access application with a SQL Server backend to manage metadata. The application design is data driven to allow for quick modifications.
    • Created a Web Site to allow for searching of the metadata library.

    • Customized a cabinetry software application to meet the needs of the business.
    • Managed the construction and delivery of cabinetry.

     

    Intel Corporation – Programmer/Analyst                                                                 Aug 2000 - June 2001

    • Completed the development of custom tools to manage the order and delivery process of next generation test processors and systems. The tools included the development of custom ActiveX components.
    • Worked with Intel staff to develop an extensive requirements document, business process flow charts, system architecture, a data model and a preliminary database.
    • Created a custom application that enables the factory to log the components of PC's as they are assembled. The application accepts part number and serial number information from hand-held scanners and stores all of its data in a central SQL Server.
    • Created a customized Excel spreadsheet that automatically stores data entry to a SQL Server.
    • Provided training to establish and customize an e-commerce web site as a building block to a complete enterprise wide solution.

    BuildNet – Programmer                                                                                             Feb 2000 – July 2000

    • Worked on a team to develop a custom application for the building industry that assists homebuyers with all decisions associated with buying a new home.
    • Developed a custom tool to allow an administrator to capture the structure of a database, including indexes, triggers, and stored procedures, and replicate the structure to another database. This tool is utilized to keep client databases updated as new software versions are delivered.

    AlliedSignal - Developer/Analyst                                                                               Mar 1999 - Jan 2000

    • Completed an MS Access97 application to manage a customer base and perform billing for a Satellite telephone system. The application includes logic to read computer records of satellite phone calls and to apply a correct cost to each call based on the calling plan of the customer and the source and destination locations of the call.
    • Led the analysis and requirements gathering process involving staff and managers from three departments. Organized the resulting material into a format for creating an RFP.
    • Completed the migration of the MS Access97 application data into an Oracle environment and created a new application interface utilizing Visual Basic 6.0. The engine for the application is a table driven model that enables new screens to be built or existing screens to be modified without re-compiling the application.

    COMSYS - Development Manager/Senior Analyst                                                                  Consultant

    • Began employment for COMSYS, a systems integration group, as an entry-level programmer and placed myself on an aggressive, self-paced education schedule. Ended employment as a Manager and Senior Consultant.

     

    Client: State of PA Appellate Courts - Development Manager/Senior Analyst                       1998-1999

    • Created the design of a custom case management software application for the State of Pennsylvania Appellate Courts. The successful design would automate the three appellate courts of Pennsylvania, the Supreme, Superior, and Commonwealth courts. It is a distributed application with multiple Sun servers in multiple cities throughout the state. Utilizing knowledge and lessons learned on a previous Case Management System, the major design components for this application and system architecture were developed based on my concepts.
    • Designed a 250-table database to store the courts data.
    • Coordinated JAD sessions with client staff on a bi-weekly basis for over eight months. State technical staff and lawyers from various offices of the three courts attended the meetings. In these meetings functional requirements and process flows were reviewed and matched against the application design.

    • Managed the conversion of the previously developed custom application from MS Access 2.0 to MS Access 97 and from MS SQL Server 4.2.1 to MS SQL Server 6.0.

    Client: AT&T - Team Manager/Lead Programmer                                                                            1997

    • Managed the design and development of an upgrade to the previously developed custom database query and analysis tool for AT&T. Additional features and functionality were integrated into the new application. The scope of the project expanded from one server with one database to three servers and ten databases. The application allowed the user to implement a query against any of the ten databases by selecting a different region of the country.
    • Created a custom tool for importing data from an MS Access file into multiple SQL Servers and databases.

    • Executed the design and development of two client-server applications for the Port of Sacramento to track and report on daily business activities.

    • Met with the client to determine requirements and created functional specifications and implementation plans.
    • Organized and managed the design and development of a custom database query and analysis tool for AT&T. The resultant product enables the user to perform ad hoc queries against a database on MS SQL Server. This application included an automated update routine to allow new versions of the application to be installed upon successful login to the server.
